Ep 1: Why Motherhood Feels So Heavy?
In episode one of this five-part series, registered psychologist Christina Bond explores the emotional weight of motherhood, and why it often feels heavier than we ever imagined. She uncovers the gap between expectations and reality, highlighting four key reasons parenting can feel overwhelming. Discover three practical ways to navigate the challenges of motherhood, and remember: you are not alone. Parenting was never meant to be done alone, and there is hope in learning how to care for both yourself and your baby.
Ep 2: An Introduction to Matrescence
In this episode, Christina introduces the concept of matrescence. She explains that becoming a parent is not just about caring for a baby but about a deep transformation in identity, values, relationships, and purpose. Drawing on the work of pioneers in the field, she highlights how matrescence includes ongoing adaptations throughout a mother’s life.
Ep 3: Best Start to Life: Brain Development, Attachment and Co-Regulation
In this episode, Christina explores how to give babies the best start in life through understanding infant brain development, secure attachment, and co-regulation. She explains how the first 1000 days are a critical window of rapid brain growth, during which babies are shaped by their environment and relationships.
Ep 4: Supporting Mothers in the First 1000 Days
In this episode, Christina shifts the focus to mothers' wellbeing, reminding us that supporting parents is foundational to supporting babies. She challenges the myth that self-care alone is the solution, instead naming the systemic and cultural reasons why mothers often feel depleted. She describes what maternal wellness truly looks like, more than meeting physical needs; it includes emotional support, purpose, and feeling valued.
Ep 5: Your Evolving Identity
In this final episode, Christina explores identity in motherhood. She validates the disorientation many mothers feel as their roles, routines, and self-concept shift with the arrival of a child. Christina explains that identity change is at the heart of Matrescence, and while it can feel like a loss, it’s also an opportunity for profound growth.
