What is matrescence coaching?
Matrescence is a normal developmental transition. Matrescence coaching helps mothers understand what's disrupted this process.
Matrescence coaching:
helps mothers make sense of their experiences
addresses root causes - not just symptoms
turns self-criticism into self-compassion
allows mothers to feel seen, heard, held and supported
helps mothers understand themselves and their journey.
Because when mothers understand themselves, they can stop thinking they're broken. We know it's the system that's broken, and want mothers to know that too.
Do I need therapy or matrescence coaching?
Every mother can experience matrescence coaching. For those experiencing moderate-severe distress a therapist is recommended.
Matrescence coaching is designed for those wanting to better understand their experience of motherhood. For those wanting to explore the profound identity, relational, emotional, and transitional shifts. For those wanting to experience personal growth and transformation, and meet their evolving self.
Matrescence coaches move away from the idea that we need to “fix” mothers, so they can perform better or cope more efficiently. Instead, they focus on how to support mothers to mother within systems that were never designed with their wellbeing in mind.
Who can provide matrescence coaching?
Technically anyone can call themselves a matrescence coach. We recommend support from one of our Certified Matrescence Practitioners who has deeply studied matrescence.
Matrescence is complex, and to understand the process of transition, what can disrupt this transition, and how to hold space for a mother, practitioners needs comprehensive training to provide evidence-based support.
That’s why we’ve created a growing directory of Matrescence Practitioners, trained professionals who can walk beside you through this developmental process.
What kind of support do Matrescence Practitioners offer?
You’re pregnant and overwhelmed by the pressure to “stay positive” but inside, you’re anxious, unsure, or even grieving parts of your old self.
A Matrescence Practitioner can help you name those feelings, release the guilt, and create space to prepare emotionally, not just practically, for what’s ahead.
You’ve had your baby, and everyone keeps asking about baby…but no one’s asking how you are.
A practitioner can help you feel seen, help you process what’s changing, and gently guide you in finding your footing and your voice.
You feel like you’re constantly “not doing enough” at home, in your relationship, with your baby.
They’ll help you understand why that pressure feels so heavy, where it comes from, and how to let it go.
Whether you're preparing for birth, adjusting to postpartum life, or just craving space to breathe and be heard, there’s someone here who gets it.
And the best part? We’re adding more certified practitioners to the directory throughout the year so support is growing, just when you might need it most.
